  2. Hi Lynne,
Thanks for telling us a bit about yourself/work. Interesting that you're looking at a move from PPC to #SM. Can you give us any examples of what you've been using re: social media? What's worked (for certain businesses) and what hasn't?

  3. Introduction
I work in the supply chain field for an oilfield service company. We use many forms of communication including phone, email, Internet, Intranet and IM. While my company is on Twitter and Linkedin, I do not actively use those tools in my job.
I want to write when I retire so this course caught my attention. Social media seems to be the future of writing and communications in general so I decided to learn what it was about. It is a challenge as I have limited previous experience with social media.
As you can see, I still need to work on short, clear and concise communications. I have a few more weeks to get it right……..

    1. Hi Dianna! I too have issues with writing short, clear and concise post. Always so much to say and so many ways to say it. Perhaps this course will help me too.

    2. Hi Dianna!

I like how you are planning your post-retirement engagements from now itself. Writing is, indeed, a greta exercise to keep yourself occupied in a meaningful way. And what better medium that social media, the most trendy platform these days.

My father, almost 70 now, has been a writer all his life. And I really appreciate him for taking to Facebook at this age. I like the way he has had adapted to this new medium (new for him, at least) and express his thoughts concisely yet beautifully.

  5. Hello everyone!

I am basically a stay-a-home mom and resigned from my position as editor for a small community newspaper. I currently volunteer/help with social media sites for a couple community organizations/events and small businesses. My own business, Wisdom Tree Media, is a slow growing business that is looking at different ways to expand awareness of conscious living through meditation, yoga, health and wellness and service.

Social media is an effective tool to connect with others and share ideas. I look forward to learning more through this course and will look at the program the U of A is offering in the fall.

  6. Hello Everyone!

I work as a project manager at a not-for-profit organization that helps immigrants settle in Canada.

At present, I am managing a girls' leadership project that seeks to address the problem of under-representation of South Asian and Middle Eastern girls/young women in Canada's civic, political, and community life. To this effect, I intend to start a social media discourse and engage girls/young women in a meningful dialogue to explore the barriers that restrict their active participation in the aforementioned areas.

As Generation Y identifies itself with Facebook/Twitter/Instagram and the likes, even more than e-mails and in-person meetings, I would like to tap into this force through this medium.

I hope to benefit from this course.

    Trina
