Memorial gathering for 'Damini' – raped and murdered in Delhi, India
"No woman is safe until all women are safe!"
Edmonton... The Indo-Canadian Women's Association (ICWA), in collaboration with Daughters Day Committee, is organizing a memorial gathering for ‘Damini’ – the daughter of India – who succumbed to injuries following a brutal gang rape in India last year. The ceremony will be held on February 15, 2013 from 5:00 to 6:00 p.m. at City Hall, Edmonton.

On December 16, 2012, a 23-year old paramedic student was allegedly gang raped and later brutally beaten by six men on the streets of Delhi, the capital city of India. It was a fun evening with her boyfriend that came to a tragic end when 'Damini', a pseudo name, boarded a private bus and fell prey to a group of young men who were drunk. Following a 30-minute physical torture with an iron rod that was inserted in her private parts, the suspects threw her on the road from a moving bus. She battled for life in the hospital for 12 days and eventually died of multiple organ failure on December 29.

The incident sparked off a mass protest across India that demanded tough measures by the government to address the problem of gender violence in the country. The matter is sub-HYPERLINK "http://www.thefreedictionary.com/sub+judice"judice.
Apart from the organizers and their supporters, the event is open to the public. Various State and City Council dignitaries have confirmed to join the gathering, lend their support to the cause, and spread the message across.

  1. Hi Dr. Laccetti,

I had also posted a picture in my optimized news release. But I don't see it here right now. Don't know where I went wrong. I had used the "Picture" tag when I composed the post.

Will try that feature again in some other post.
