Week 5: Readings & Activity

Read the Week 5: Facebook for Business: Mini-Lecture (moodle)

Read & Watch: Coca Cola uses Facebook face recognition technology in the real world

Complete the Facebook Page activity (as noted in the mini-lecture)

Update: I've had a few queries from students about how to create a Facebook Page. FB has some great instructions you can read here but here's the overall idea:

  1. A coca cola machine with face recognition? It's not quite Big Brother, but it seems more creepy than cool. Maybe it's just me.

  2. Hi guys! I was thinking it was an interesting to see what was coming, but also felt a little scared by it too. Glad I am not the only one.

The article from Intel was interesting as it was a sneak peak into how they are managing social media. I especially liked the "Tech Therapy" section and how Facebook can help and interact with their viewers and how they interact with the "Tech geeks" and utilize their expertise. I think the removal of 'we are the expert' and 'you are the consumer' bias encourages people to see that they can see themselves in a product/business/service which probably increases the likelihood for some people to find value or believe in a business.

My blog post are up (http://wtm-thejourney.blogspot.ca/2013/05/wisdom-tree-media-inc-is-on-facebook.html) and with that I think I am caught up.

  3. The Coke machine is a little bit out there. Very Orwellesque.

It looks a little long, but it explains a lot. I know - not very concise, but I think it contains a lot of information.

I did a blog with a screenshot and link as well. Here's the link to that blog.

The facebook stuff was a bit tricky, technically, but the result seems to be promising. I plan to put some more stuff in there, related to other books and whatnot.

  5. Just a note to all those of you who have made FB pages. Firstly, they are amazing! Secondly, feel free to share the link to your FB page so that we (and other blog readers) can "like" it. Also, feel free to tweet it using the class hashtag: #ESMC

  7. Here is a start of the FB assignment. This is proving to be a lot more challenging than I thought it would be. Everyone uses FB so I thought it would be a "piece of cake". I was wrong, however, I will persevere. I like a challenge.

  11. Hi!

Here is my fictional Facebook page. I used some pictures off the Internet. I'll soon remove the page as I don't want to violate any copyrights.
